Doors close Thursday, Jul 15 at 2:00pm PT
Description
What are the qualities that make a brush perfect for watercolor? Ink? Gouache? What's the deal with the hair from that little kolinsky animal and why is it so costly? Are brushes made from synthetic filaments as good (or better) than those made with natural hair?
Join David Pyle, along with special brush-making expert guests, Marla Morrison and Samantha Adkins (from the Winsor + Newton brush making team), as we answer all your questions about these essential tools.
Brush Experts
David Pyle
uses his background in art and chemistry to tell stories of the Western landscape with paint and pencil. With that intersection of art and science, he worked for Winsor & Newton and Liquitex, and subsequently with The Artist’s Magazine and American Artist Magazine. For nearly 40 years, he’s been experimenting with watercolors and their magical alchemy.
Marla Morrison
was born in El Paso, Texas, and graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos with a B.F.A. in drawing and Claremont Graduate University with an M.F.A. in painting.
She has worked as a teaching artist for Winsor & Newton and Liquitex for the past 21 years.
Marla is inspired by a variety of creative media and strives to convey beauty via color, design, and the physical properties of resin or paint. For her, making art is about the process, as much as the end result.
Samantha Atkins
is the Business Development Manager at Colart, working together with a team of dedicated brush makers to produce the best sustainable artist brushes without compromise to quality & functionality. She has 25+ years of experience across various sectors like fine art, educational, children’s, cosmetic & gaming. Most recently, she and her team launched the new ranges of Professional Watercolour Synthetic brushes.
