Q&Art Live: All About Paper

Did you know that the wrong paper can make your watercolors dull, can make your waterproof ink not waterproof, can affect your pencil smudginess, your pen's performance, and so much more? Selecting paper and sketchbooks can be overwhelming. So many weights, types, brands .... There's loads to learn!

I have loads of questions too — so I gathered up the smartest paper experts I could find to give us some answers. We'll discuss how paper is made and why it matters, common problems, how to select the right materials, and much more. And bring your questions — we'll have time for you to ask the experts.

Tickets include a free 2-pack of Hahnemühle’s The Collection Watercolor 6x9” Cold Press (U.S. shipping only).

This is the first is a series of in depth conversations on art materials that we will be doing in the months ahead. To make them as affordable and accessible as possible, tickets are just $10 and we'll give 100% of the profits to Chelsea's Charity, a wonderful non-profit devoted to providing art supplies and children’s mental health development through art.

Featuring Danny Gregory, with special guests:

  • Joe Domeier: Expert from Hahnemühle, Europe’s old paper mill.

  • David Pyle: Artist, author of What Every Artist Needs to Know About Paints + Colors, and former Group Publisher of the Artist’s Magazine, Watercolor Artist, Pastel Journal, American Artist and more.

  • Michael Skalka: Retired Conservation Administrator at the National Gallery of Art, Chairman for the American Society of Testing and Materials D01.57, Artists’ Materials, contributor to the Artist’s Magazine and American Artist Magazine, painter of plein air landscapes in oil.
