Over the years, I’ve accumulated a whole range of skills and techniques that I rely on every time I open my sketchbook. But I know how overwhelming it can be to figure all this out on your own—where to start, what materials to use, which techniques actually work. That’s why I created this course.
Â
I wanted to give you a focused, step-by-step way to get comfortable with everything you need to know to fill a sketchbook with confidence.
Â
And I didn’t do it alone. I invited some of my favorite sketchbook artists—each with their own distinct style and strengths—to share what they do best so you can come away with a solid foundation in all the techniques and materials that make sketchbook journaling so rich and rewarding.
We start with the fundamentals of drawing—learning to see like an artist, breaking down the world into simple shapes and lines, and sketching with confidence. You’ll practice contour drawing, get a feel for proportions, and build up the skills to capture anything around you, whether it’s the objects on your desk or the city outside your window. Once you’re comfortable with drawing, we’ll introduce color, exploring watercolor and mixed media techniques that add depth, vibrancy, and personality to your pages.
This isn’t just about technical skills—it’s about developing a creative practice that works for you. Along the way, you’ll pick up insights from a fantastic lineup of artists, including Felix Scheinberger, Andrea Joseph, Jane LaFazio, Tommy Kane, and me, Danny Gregory. The lessons are filmed in their studios, giving you an inside look at their creative processes, their favorite tools, and the approaches they’ve refined over years of making art.

"Sketchbook Skool changed my life. The classes are full of excellent demonstrations and information, the teachers are inspiring, and I have improved my skills along with my confidence. Ellen G, Atlanta, GA
"I have joined many art groups, signed up for YouTube channels, and paid for subscriptions here and there. But the strength, understanding, and support from the Sketchbook Skool community is incomparable to anywhere else. Thank you!"
