By

What’s going on with our amazing Sketchbook Skool teachers? Find out here, and maybe even meet up with them!

Lynne Chapman: Lynne will be teaching 4 half-day Urban Sketchers workshops in her home base of Sheffield, UK on June 24 and August 12; details are here on her blog. She’ll also be teaching workshops at the upcoming Urban Sketching Symposium in Chicago, and she runs monthly SketchCrawls in the north of England (check out their Facebook page). Her latest picture book is Class One Farmyard Fun, the third in a series. Congratulations Lynne!

Jason Das: Those of you who are now zine crazy thanks to Brian Butler’s klass in Exploring will be happy to hear that Jason Das is up to the fourth volume of his variety zine, Gas Water Nothing. He’ll be teaching a workshop at the Urban Sketching Symposium in Chicago in July and will be participating in the New York Botanical Garden’s Plein Air Invitational on June 11. Jason has also been a visiting teaching artist in New York City public schools, teaches regularly at Shoestring Studio in Brooklyn, and does collaborative drawing events at Brooklyn Draw Jam. “Any Sketchbook Spoolers in the NYC area who like to talk and draw at the same time should come join us!” he says.

Miguel “Freekhand” Herranz: Congratulations to Miguel on his new book, Barcelona Rooftops! This is the follow-up to his book Here & There. Miguel is also teaching Urban Sketching workshops in Rotterdam (details to come), Bristol in June, and Galway in July. Find out more here.

Cathy Johson: Cathy is now on Instagram! She also has previously out-of-print books being reissued, Sketching in Nature and Painting in Nature.

Jane LaFazio: Jane is on the move! On May 20, she’ll be at New York’s Open Center teaching a class called Using Sketching and Watercolor to Create a Beautiful Journal of Your Life. Then Jane will teach Sketching and Watercolor in Montreal and Quebec City June 6-11, both in the cities and on the train (cool!). Details are here.

Lapin: Ever tried Urban Sketching in a hurricane? Lapin did, and you can see some of the gorgeous results here. (Remember, he’s a pro; do not attempt this yourself!) He will be teaching far less daredevil Urban Sketching classes in Clermont in June; find details here.

Veronica Lawlor: The teacher behind our A Drawing A Day kourse will be at the Urban Sketching Symposium in Chicago in July, and giving live Urban Sketching lessons called Puzzling Out the Picture in New York City September 8-10. Like Nantucket? Ronnie will be teaching there too on September 14 and 15.

Prashant Miranda: Prash has been traveling all over, as usual, but stopped to make this gorgeous sketch of a home he stayed in while in Switzerland. Love it? The print is for sale as part of a fundraiser to help with renovations.

Michael Nobbs: Michael has a new address—michaelnobbs.com, where you can find a ton of free resources, including a free two-week course called Get One Thing Done. At the end of May, Michael will be teaching a course called Building a Sustainably Creative Life, about which he is an expert, at Gladstone’s Library in North Wales; details are here.

Melanie Reim: Melanie has been super busy on her artistic sabbatical. She was invited to be an Artist in Residence at the Manchester Fashion Institute at Manchester University in the UK; spoke at SUNY College at Buffalo, NY about “Accidental Fashion Illustrators”; was featured in Michael Fleishman’s Starting Your Career As an Illustrator; had an exhibition at New Views 2017; was featured by NHK TV in Japan; did a documentary commission for Doctors Without Borders “I Am Muslim Too”; and so much more! See her blog for more details and Melanie’s amazing reportage drawings.

Liz Steel: The Queen of Teacups will be teaching two five-day sketching tours in gorgeous Veneto, Italy, at the end of May; details are here, and you can see the sketches from last year’s visit here.

Roz Stendahl: Good news from Roz land: She’s got a self-guided course called By Design: Creating the Intentional Page, and she’ll have another book-binding class, Simple Round Back Spine, coming in July. Go to RozWoundUp.com for details.

Jill Weber: Congratulations to Jill, whose book Mutt’s Promise was a Middle Grade Finalist for the Ohioana Library Book Award! Jill has also been busy planting and creating cut-paper art, and she’s now on Instagram at @jillweberillustration.
