Pop!

Hang on–before you eat that toast you’re about to enjoy for breakfast, grab your pens, color pencils, watercolors, whatever you like to make art with, as well as the butter and jam. It’s time for art before breakfast!

We’re celebrating the special e-book sale of Danny’s art Before Breakfast, and yes, that’s art with a small “a.” Art with a big “A” is for museums, galleries, auctions, and critics (eek, not them!). Here at Sketchbook Skool, we make art–art that’s full of passion, love, life, humanity. It’s art for all! You don’t have to go to Art school for years and years, and you never have to suffer to make great art. Creativity, as Danny writes in art Before Breakfast, isn’t a luxury; it’s the essence of life. Being creative helps you make the most of each precious day, and to have perspective on what really matters to you.

And just think: all that can begin with your morning toast.

To warm up for our new SBS course, Expressing, this week’s mini-assignment is to join the SBS Breakfast Club. Membership is easy: Each day this week, draw your toast. Or your eggs and hash browns, oatmeal, muesli, whatever you eat in the morning. If you eat on the train to work or at your desk, no problem–download art Before Breakfast into your phone and you’ll have instant art assignments for whenever you have a moment to draw. And you’ll find a lot more of those the more you make art.

Join the SBS Breakfast Club today! Get art Before Breakfast, draw your morning meal, and then post your toast on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. Tag us with @sketchbookskool and #sbspostyourtoast so we can find and share your work! And here’s an artist’s tip from Danny and Koosje: Maybe make two slices of toast, so you have one to eat while you draw the other.
