Now that the SkoolHouse is starting to buzz with activity again, we are introducing all of our courses to more new students. Each month, we will focus on a different course and issue a sketch challenge to celebrate what our students in that particular course in the past have done as well as show the newbies what’s in store for them.

This month, we look back on Beginning. It was our very first course and a ton of people have some fantastic memories of what Beginning meant to them. We asked former and current students what Beginning meant to them and got a variety of great answers. See below for some student responses!

My thoughts on having taken Beginning are many. I loved it. Even though I've been sketching regularly since 2008, I learned so much and I got so much out of being in these klasses. I made a lot of new friends from all over the globe, I went to Singapore for the Urban Sketcher's Symposium this year, I gained confidence in my sketching skills, I overcame my fear of sketching in public, and I think I'm actually getting a style of my own. I had the daily sketching habit before SBS and have kept it up but I've become totally passionate about sketching and while I used to be PRODUCT driven I am happy to say that I'm now PROCESS driven.

A flash went off and I suddenly could see just how much fun drawing can be! That's what Sketchbook Skool's Beginning meant to me!

I took all the SBS klasses so far and enjoyed them all... But Beginning has claimed a special place in my memory/heart/head. Because it was sooo new and amazing and surprising and fun, that new place where you could learn stuff about drawing, experiment and discover and share what you loved about drawing, meet like-minded people, talk endlessly about pens and generally have fun... The other semesters have been wonderful too, but Beginning had the Surprise Effect factor. 1,5 year later, I'm even more addicted to drawing than I was then!
