Lots of students ask us how they can find people in their area to sketch with. We suggest that they begin by looking for local sketching groups on Facebook or Meetup.com. But sometimes the best way to find people who sketch is to look at the people in your community.

Student Elizabeth Merriman created a group of watercolor art journal enthusiasts in her retirement community. They regularly meet up to draw, both in their common areas and go on mini sketch crawls. The sketchers are of all skill levels and it has turned into quite a nurturing community. We love Elizabeth’s story because it shows that you can both be inspired by, and inspire those around you as you create your own creative community. Who could you draw with?
